Soda Bar @ 9:30

Hello People  Who Know OSAG,

It has been a while since we have updated you as to what is going on with Of Sons and Ghosts  and as it says in the title, we are waking up to place our noses to the grindstone, and if you have seen my nose you would feel sorry for that grindstone.  We finished a show a couple of weeks ago at club Eleven and made some great new friends in a three-piece, kick ass, instrumental band called The Housewives , Save Amos and Children of Nova.  We would like to thank Zeke Productions for the show.  Our next show is on Sunday July 17  at the Soda bar in North Park with Oslo and Violet Isle.  That is the day of my(Barry) birthday celebration which we are having at Liberty Station for a huge beer tasting event.  There is a great chance that we will be in rare form, when are we not.  This is a Sunday night and we play at 9:30.  We will be playing a new song called Birds of Prey, which is quite a nice little ditty.  More on it later.

Tonight(Monday the 20th) most of the band will be at Blind Lady Alehouse tasting Great San Diego Beers and eating pizza.  If you are there come by and say hi.

On the recording of the new LP, we have stalled a bit and are trying to earn so $$ to get the rest of the songs recorded.  We are hoping in August to go up to Big Bear with Christian Cummings and record in a friend’s cabin for 5 days to get a couple of songs in the hopper.  Like the BonIver experience without the heartache.  One idea being thrown around is to head to LA and record the new song Birds of Prey at Elliot Smith’s old studio, New Monkey Studio’s.   That would be a surreal experience.

Please respond and reply when you get these blogs.  We are trying to make a huge push using the technologies that be to pull the ultimate Obama grass-roots movement.  Just with a band instead of a Politician.

Stop Fucking Around and Come See a Show,

OSAG(BL)

Merry Christmas, Happy Chanaka, Festive Kwanza, Jolly Festivus, and Cool Holidays to the whole OSAG nation.  Of Sons of Ghosts is going into the holiday season getting ready to play our last show of 2010 at The Ruby Room in Hillcrest on December 30.  The show starts at 9 pm and promises to be a good one.  Cry for Us Black Swans(good name), and Jure Crando Manorlady are also playing on the bill.  A new song is going to be played called Gift Giver for the holiday season.  Instead of being about Santa it is the rantings of a homeless woman to the absent God living in her head.    Its not as heavy as it sounds.  It will be a “gift” to all of you.  See what I did there?   OSAG is organizing a small tour and many shows also to start 2011.  The show schedules are on our Facebook page.  Speaking of, you can also follow us on Twitter on the name OSAG 1.  Going into the holiday season it is important for us all to remember those who don’t have as much as we

After much deliberation and planning, we have finally mixed our latest 3 songs for the public to hear. You can access the songs on Reverbnation, Facebook, Myspace, and Webceleb. We are glad to be finished with this small portion of our upcoming full album. Stay tuned and enjoy!!

Thanks to our good friend Christian Cummings at Signature Sound, we have set a date to finalize our recordings from April 2010 and they are on track for being completed July 15th. Over much deliberation and scheduling conflicts, we scrutinized the material and have come up with a mixing plan we all agree will represent the ideas OSAG has in their collective heads. The next few steps in the recording process will be discussed very soon as we continue to write new songs and plan to lay down 3 more tracks at an undisclosed time/location in the future. Meanwhile, come out to the Soda Bar on July 16th with Black Bone Child (from Austin, TX), and Cedar Fire, which will be a great show. Come early we start at 9pm SHARP. We are slowly building up our merchandise collection with stickers (click the picture below, made by Marc Medina), shirts and CDs. So come get some new stuff!

Other info: Danny, Brian, Barry and Lane are slowly and methodically working on two side projects in their spare time. Brian’s working on a solo album recorded by Danny and all four are working on an Alternative Country album called The Old Barns, with plans to do some home recordings very soon.

Keep in touch, and please find us on Facebook and Twitter to get your OSAG fix.

Love Ya, Mean it.

OSAG is proud of our first installment of a new album to be completed sometime this year. We entered Signature Sound on Saturday 4/10/10 at 10am ready for two marathon sessions equaling 13 plus hours each continuing until Sunday 4/11/10 rapping things up around midnight. We knew what we were in for. Our recording engineer and producer Christian Cummings was a true professional and made us feel like family while we were in the studio. As with most recording sessions, we began with Adam on drums while the guitars and bass played along on “dirt tracks” (tracks recorded only for the drummer to hear). The picture above is of Adam warming up before he recorded his drum tracks. Barry is doing what he does best, sitting there, cracking wise.

We have decided to give everyone an inside look as to how our recording sessions flow. First, Adam sat behind the kit and pounded out the drum tracks to lay down the foundation of each song. The guitars strum along through headphones so we can create a live drum sound and feed off of each other as we play.

The next step in our recording process is matching the bass to the drums; the backbone to the music foundation. Here, Brian is recording one of his bass lines as he listens to drums and a click track.

As the song unfolds, we add another important layer, the rhythm guitar. In this video, much like the previous one featuring Brian on bass, Barry records his rhythm guitar parts and the song really starts to take shape.

Now, we begin to add melody to each song with lead guitar lines and effects. Here, Danny is recording his guitar parts to make the song pretty chaotic in the ending.

Finally, the songs have taken shape and the most crucial component is recorded last; vocals. Here, Lane has the all-important job of singing over the top of each song as we crept up on our 23rd hour of recording.
Check this blog frequently, as the final mix will be available 5/3/10.
